The Story
Every game has a shape. This one is no different—a journey that began on a chilly linoleum floor and ended on a baseball diamond buzzing with the voices of cheering children. This is the shape of Hanna’s season.
Neglect
Born the odd one out in a litter of Deer-head Chihuahuas, Hanna was the only pup never scooped up in gentle arms. She felt like the oddity, a cuckoo in a nest of finches. While her brothers and sisters found homes, she stayed behind neglected with a man whose boots and temper she learned to read like the weather.
Escape
Driving down the road, the memories of her mama and siblings raced across her mind. Her heart pounded so hard she could feel it in her throat. The man and Hanna were heading to the desert with that shinny thing the man had. There had to be a way out. With every ounce of courage she had left, something inside her said, "Now!" and she leaped, her body sailing through the open back window landing on the median.
Found
she was now alone in this world and wondered what would become of her. But something told her everything was going to be all right. Then a stranger with a salt-and-pepper beard stopped his car where she was, under a bush in the median and took a photo. a rescue crew stopped four lanes of rush-hour traffic to bring her in. Then she recognized him—the salt-and- pepper-bearded man from the blue sedan who had seen her through the car window. He had returned.
Adoption
The bearded man from the blue sedan came back the next day — this time to bring her home for good. Hanna finally got a name, a full bowl, an RV full of camping trips, and a man she would come to call "my Daddy" who talked to her like she mattered, because she did.
Fame
At the park one afternoon, the crack of a bat sent a foul ball sailing straight to Hanna — and she snagged it clean out of the air. Word spread. Regulars started showing up early just to watch "the baseball dog" go to work.
Humble
From a magazine cover to her very own baseball card, Hanna's story kept climbing — but she never forgot where it started. The Christian broadcast that once filled her lonely days turned out to be planting something that would carry her all the way home. Hanna couldn’t help but stop and think for a minute. It was not about fame. It was about being humble and true to one’s self.
